Hartford Geriatric Nursing Initiative
The UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing was awarded a 3-year John A. Hartford Foundation Nursing School Geriatric Investment Program grant in January 2002. The SON was one of seven schools of nursing in the country to receive this grant to build capacity in geriatric nursing education and practice. Specific aims of this project were to develop undergraduate and graduate curriculum in geriatric nursing.
The outcomes of The John A. Hartford Foundation Geriatric Investment Program include:
- Health Sciences Library Geriatric Practice virtual collection
This collection consists of the geriatric resources at UNC such as Centers and databases specific to geriatrics and aging.
- Creation of undergraduate and graduate educational resources:
“Interviewing Older Adults” This module consists of interviews with three older adults that cover physical and psychosocial issues confronting older adults. This module is available on a DVD with a teaching guide.
Web-enhanced module on geriatric assessment
Web-enhanced module on geropsychiatric conditions
Clinical simulation with the human patient simulator on heart failure
- Dissemination of geriatric educational resources
Geriatrics at your Fingertips distributed to all Adult Nurse Practitioner students and faculty members.
