RN-BSN ONLINE APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR FIRST AND SECOND DEGREE

Application Process
The School of Nursing admits Registered Nurses only to Carolina RN-BSN Online. Students are admitted three times a year to begin in January, May, and August.

Admission requirements
- Completion of all lower division (prerequisite courses) requirements prior to enrollment. You may apply for admission while you are completing the lower division requirements. However, you must complete all requirements prior to enrolling in the first RN/BSN online course. Courses may be taken at other colleges or universities but must be deemed equivalent to UNC courses. Transfer equivalency information is available at the following website address: https://s4.its.unc.edu/sis/adm/xfereq.html.
- A current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina or the state in which you will do your clinical coursework. This requirement must be met by the time of enrollment in the first clinical course.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 in all post-secondary coursework
RN-BSN Online offers two study options
- The one-year option is fast paced, and can be completed in 12 consecutive months.
- The two-year option allows for a slower pace, and can be completed in 24 consecutive months.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION
- The RN-BSN application is available on-line only.It can be accessed through the nursing homepage http://nursing.unc.edu. All nursing program applicants are applying to UNC-Chapel Hill for an undergraduate program and only one application is currently required. The information required by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will be accessible to them so a separate application to that office is not necessary. An application can be saved and edited until it is submitted or up to the deadline. Applications become inaccessible following the deadline for a particular cycle and remain so until the application is reactivated for the next cycle.
- Applicants should access the RN-BSN Online application and complete all information requested. A UNC-Chapel Hill homepage must be set up before the application can be accessed. When establishing your UNC-Chapel Hill homepage, please choose one of the following as your applicant status:
- Readmit Nursing -- If you hold a bachelor’s degree from UNC-CH in another area (second-degree) or if you have previously been enrolled at UNC-CH as a degree seeking undergraduate (returning first or second degree)
- Transfer Nursing -- If you hold a bachelor’s degree in another area (second-degree) from a university other than UNC-Chapel Hill, or if you are transferring from another school prior to completing a bachelor’s degree (first-degree). If you hold an earned a bachelor’s degree, you are considered second-degree even if you are currently enrolled in another degree program.
Applicants should conscientiously complete the application, carefully reading all instructions.
- Your responses to the Essays Questions are to be placed in a single document, double-spaced, at least size 11 point font, and saved as a MS Word “.doc” file. Place page breaks between the essays so they will print out on separate sheets. If you do not follow the instructions correctly, your essays will not upload correctly. Note: you are limited to a maximum of two pages per essay (6 pages total).
- Applicants presenting completed degrees from institutions outside the United States or Canada must have the previous degree validated by a foreign education evaluation agency. - An application fee of $70.00 is due to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and may be paid by check or money order or paid online by credit card. Applications submitted without application fee will not be considered.
- All supplemental materials must be received by the appropriate office at UNC – Chapel Hill by the application deadline or the application will not be considered.
