The School of Nursing offers challenge exams (see schedule below) for certain prerequisite courses to qualified individuals (see each exam below for criteria) intending to apply for admission to one of the three BSN options. Students who pass the exam with a C- or better grade, are given “By Exam” credit for that particular course, and, as such, have met the particular requirement.

Biology 252 exam
Students eligible to take this challenge exam:

• completed a course in human anatomy with a laboratory, and cannot obtain transfer equivalency credit at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Physiology 202
Students eligible to take this challenge exam:

• completed a human or mammalian physiology course (approximately 5 semester hours in addition to Biology 45 or its equivalent) and cannot obtain transfer equivalency credit at UNC-Chapel Hill, and have taken two semesters of general chemistry.

Microbiology 255
Students eligible to take this challenge exam:

• completed a general medical microbiology course with a laboratory or elementary pathogenic microbiology with a laboratory, and cannot obtain transfer equivalency credit at UNC-Chapel Hill, OR
• completed a general medical microbiology course with a laboratory or elementary pathogenic microbiology with a laboratory over five years ago.
