Accelerated BSN Program Information & Questions
July 3, 2007
Question: I started an application online for the 24 month program but have decided I want to apply to the 14 month program. It will not let me create an application since I already have one in the system *not submitted) for the 24 month program. Is there any way to delete it and start over? I haven't been able to fix it. Thanks!
Answer: You need to send an email to me (sonugadmissions@unc.edu) and ask me to change your major on the application. I can do this up to the time you submit the application.
Question: How badly are my chances of getting into the 14 month program hurt by my having 1 more prerequisite to finish (will be finished in December)?
Answer: If the remaining prerequisite is a science (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology) it may be a factor. A lot will depend on how strong your overall application is and how strong the applicant pool is.
Question: Would it be a better idea in your opinion to just apply to the 24 month program if you are missing a prerequisite (since the Carolina undergrads applying to the program will have a prerequisite in progress, as well)?
Answer: It is entirely up to you. I can't say that admission to the 24-month option is any less competitive. Perhaps you should contact me after the chat session so we can discuss more in detail your particular situation.
Question: Would a 3.5 undergrad GPA and a 3.5 science GPA be competitive for the 14 month BSN?
Answer: That would be in the range of applicants most likely to be seriously considered.
Question: I am taking the CNA test August 15th and plan to work as a CNA for a few months before hopefully entering UNC's program in January. Since this is occurring after the app. deadline, is there anyway I can mention this is my application or is it not really relevant since it is occurring after the fact?
Answer: I would put it in either your volunteer section or your work history as something you are planning to do. Also, if you know where the activity will take place you could put that information in. There will also be an opportunity in the optional essay question to talk about things like this.
Question: Can you tell me the average GPA/Sci. GPA for May 2007's admitted ABSN students?
Answer: I don't think we have run those figures yet. I will try to have them available for the next ABSN chat session so you can ask the question again then.
Question: Do you have any info. on reapplicants such as percentage of students rejected reapply and are accepted?
Answer: We have not done any analysis of that group. If an applicant is rejected, S/he has the option of getting feedback from our director on what was lacking in the application. Sometimes it is a matter of prerequisites not being completed at time of application so a reapplication would most likely be stronger when submitted with all prerequisites completed. Sometimes an essay can be rewritten or more information can be submitted about volunteerism. Those applicants can be more competitive on reapplication. Some applications however are very non-competitive and our director can advise them of this so usually they do not reapply. Reapplicants that were competitive but we did not have space for are usually competitive on reapplication but your chances of being offered admission can be dependent on the applicant pool of that particular cycle. If you are not accepted and you need advice on whether to reapply for another cycle, you can talk to our director for some advice.
