Question: How much does it cost per year if accepted into UNC School of Nursing?
Answer: We have a cost comparison available at our website, nursing.unc.edu that can give you total cost. Basically start to finish cost of tuition, supplies, etc. is approximately $15K for instate.
Question: I want to enter the Nursing School program as soon as possible. Right now I'm nearing the end of my studies @ Wake Tech. My interest is in the 24 month program and how the community college credits will help. Thanks - Ken
Answer: We will be glad to evaluate your transcripts and let you know which prerequisites you have already met. Just send me your transcripts with a request.
Question: Where can I find a application for the School of Nursing?
[Wed Nov 29 15:06:50 PST 2006]
Answer: Online at our website: http://nursing.unc.edu/admissions/application.html. Or, from the menu at http://nursing.unc.edu, select Admissions, then Applications.
Question: If applying to the Accelerated BSN, does it matter what your undergrad degree is in? i.e. Do you favor a person with a science degree over a person with a business, social science, or general studies degree?
Answer: We do not specify what your previous degree has to be in. We would like to see additional science courses but do not necessarily prefer a science degree.
Question: What key qualities or qualifications or experience should a successful applicant have for the Accelerated program?
Answer: We look for a high academic performance in your previous college work. We would like to see a background in the sciences and good grades in the science prerequisites. We also look for a record of volunteerism and giving back to the community, evidence of a commitment to Nursing and ability to succeed in our program.
Question: how would I go about sending you my transcripts?
Answer: You can mail it to the School of Nursing, Office of Admissions & Student Services OR Fax it to 919-966-3540: Attn: Anna Terry.
Question: Is there a listing that shows the transfer equivalency from the community colleges to UNC?
Answer: We will be posting a link to this on our main website soon, but in the meantime, we have a table up on our RN-BSN program website. The requirements are the same. http://nursing.unc.edu/current/rn-bsn/prospective.html#three. You can also email Anna Terry at the Office of Admissions & Student Services at terry@email.unc.edu.
Question: I am out of state. If my community college doesn't offer US Diversity, what are my options for satisfying the prereq for U.S. Diversity? Thanks
Answer: Your community college probably has a course or courses that will satisfy this requirement. There are about 115 courses at UNC-CH that are acceptable. I will be glad to look at any courses you are considering and help you choose an acceptable course. You can email me at terry@email.unc.edu.
Question: How many people applied for the 2007 January admission for the Accelarated program? for the 24 month program? How many did you accept for each of these programs?
Answer: We had approximately 250 total applying for both options. We admitted 32 to the accelerated option and about 45 to the 24-month option. We will be admitting 30 accelerated and 80 24-month option students in the future for each cycle.
Question: 250 people for Accelerated and 250 people for 24 month option?
Answer: The total for both options was around 250. I think we had about 100 for the accelerated and the rest for the 24-month.
Question: What is the number of students currently in the Nursing Program?
Answer: We currently have a 24-month senior class of about 120, an accelerated senior class of about 40, a junior 24-month class of around 120, a new 24-month spring class of about 45 and a spring accelerated class of around 32. That makes 357.
Question: What are the reasons for limiting the number of Accelerated students to 30 for each cycle?
Answer: Mostly due to availability of faculty and clinical sites.
Question: is there a an app. fee to apply to the son?
Answer: When you apply you will need to submit an application fee to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, unless you are currently a UNC-CH student applying to the School of Nursing. Then you will not be required to submit a fee.
Question: i am not a unc-ch student. will i need to submit a unc-ch app., as well as a son app.?
Answer: The Transfer-Nursing application takes care of applying to the School of Nursing and also to the University.
Question: What was the avg GPA of the prereq's of entering Spring class of Accelerated students? of the entering 24 month students?
Answer: Accelerated students: approx. 3.5 or greater 24mo. students: approx. 3.3 or greater
Question: i have attended 3 colleges. is there someone that can help me determine my gpa, b/f deciding which program to apply for? I understand that you can't apply for both the advanced and normal length programs.
Answer: To determine your cumulative GPA, you add all the GPA hours from all the schools and add all the Quality Points from all the schools and divide the points by the hours. I will also be glad to do an evaluation of your transcripts for prerequisites and to determine your GPA. You can mail, fax or email them to me with a request. We also have a transfer evaluation request form at our website, nursing.unc.edu that you can attach to the transcripts.
Question: how many students are accepted for both programs each semester?
Answer: We will accept 30 students to the accelerated option and 80 students to the 24-month option each cycle.
Question: What percent of the Spring 2007 accepted students are female?
Answer: Unfortunately, I don't have an exact percentage, but the majority are females.
Question: Is there an essay on the application? If so, what are a couple sample essay questions? Thanks
Answer: There are two essay questions and we do not anticipate them changing for this year. One is why do you want to be a nurse and what will you contribute to the profession. The other is describe a difficult or rewarding experience and how you handled it and what did you learn from it.
Question: do you need references to apply?
Answer: We no longer request references.
Question: Are any of the Nursing classes available on the web?
Answer: No, the BSN is not an on-line program.
Question: Would a transfer student get any credit at UNC for a co-op class that they take at a community college. (the co-op class is in a medical field) Even if Credit would be for just as a elective.
Answer: We only transfer in courses that are equivalent to our prerequisites and I don't think any of them would be satisfied by a co-op class.
Question: if you've already taken some of the classes needed for the program...how long are the good for b/f you need to repeat them?
Answer: We do not age out pre-reqs.
Question: when is the last day to apply to the bsn program.
Answer: The applications for Summer 2007 admission is due January 10, 2007.
Question: do u have a fall nursing program
Answer: No, we only admit for January and May.
Question: does having these classes prior to the program give an advantage to the applicant?
Answer: If you are talking about prerequisites, they all have to be completed prior to matriculation. If you are refering to Nursing classes - if you are admitted and have taken Nursing classes, you can submit syllabi for review for possible exemption.
Question: Thanks for you time - Ken
Answer: No problem! I hoped this helped. Email us if you have any more questions :)
Question: thank you for all of your help. i plan on coming to a campus visit.
Answer: Campus visits are usually arranged by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions through their website. We will be glad to meet with you also to discuss our program. Just contact our office.
