To enhance the bedside nurse's knowledge on ECG interpretations in order to promote positive patient outcomes. This course will provide participants with basic knowledge of the cardiac conduction system, arrhythmia recognition, analysis of ECG's, emergency drugs, actions for treatment of dysrhythmias and case studies. At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Relate the configuration of each of the 12 Lead of the EKG to pathological events
  • Utilize a systematic approach for interpreting axis deviation if present
  • Evaluate right and left bundle branch blocks, atrial enlargement, and ventricular hypertrophy
  • Recognize life threatening cardiac arrhythmias on 12 Lead EKGs
  • Practice a systematic approach to 12 Lead EKG interpretation
  • Recognize the distinction among ischemia, injury, and MI, relating the patterns of infarction/ischemia to the walls of the heart
  • Describe the EKG changes that may be caused by electrolyte imbalances and/ or medications
