Dealing with Neurological Dysfunctions: The Nurse’s Role

This intensive one-day course is designed to teach nurses how to care for patients with a neurological dysfunction. Content in the course will address specific neurological disorders including cerebral vascular disease, Parkinson's disease, MS, meningitis, seizures, increased intracranial pressure, and headaches. A didactic lecture and demonstration of a thorough neurological examination will be given in the course with adequate time for participants to practice skills and obtain supervised return demonstration.
- At the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the pathophysiology and neurological deficits of the patients with the following neurological disorders: CVA, Parkinson’s, MS, meningitis, seizures, increased ICP, headaches, and traumatic brain injury.
- Identify the current treatment and nursing management of the conditions listed.
- Demonstrate a thorough nursing assessment of the neurologic system.
