This presentation reviews the hormonal changes of perimenopause and menopause, the functions of each of the hormones on a woman?s health, and describes how hormonal fluctuations affect women of this transitional time of life. The program also reviews the elements of an assessment of a midlife woman including pertinent history taking, physical assessment, laboratory tests including hormone level studies, preventive screening measures, and lifestyle issues.

    At the end of this program, participants will be able to:
  • Identify the roles of female sex hormones and their effect on perimenopause/menopause.
  • Describe symptoms and signs of perimenopause/menopause and their relationship to changing hormonal status.
  • Discuss appropriate history, physical assessment, screening and diagnostic tests important in health of midlife woman.
