Remember what it was like to choose that first step after nursing school? There are so many options open to today’s graduates and the questions are endless. Your expertise is a wonderful resource for nursing students.

In fall 2013, the Office of Advancement, Alumni Affairs, and Communications collaborated with the Undergraduate Student Council (UGSC) to host the School’s first student-alumni mixer. The mixer gave the alumni and students a chance to connect and communicate face to face and served as a great connection to the UGSC’s “Get Hired” series, which focuses on transitioning students to professional careers. More than 75 students joined 17 alumni representing classes from 1972 through 2013 and BSN, MSN and PhD degrees. The event gave students a better sense of their career options, and alumni left with the satisfaction of having helped the newest generation of nurses. Look for information about another mixer in the fall as well as more networking events.

The School is a part of the central university’s “Carolina Connection.” This allows alumni to sign up online to communicate with a student who may have interests in your field of practice, geographic location, educational and work backgrounds etc. Simply enter your information at University Career Services, and an interested student may contact you in the future for advice and information.

Additionally, the association sponsors career panels each year. If you’d like to participate in a career panel, mixer, or mentor a student, please contact Katisha Paige at (919) 966-4619 or sonalum@unc.edu.
