SON Recognizes Alumni and Donors at Spring Event

The SON hosted its annual Alumni Award and Donor Recognition Ceremony on a beautiful spring Saturday in April. Alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of the School gathered in Chapel Hill to celebrate the achievements of colleagues and classmates, and to offer thanks for the generosity of donors who make critical professorships, scholarships, facility upgrades and much more possible for the School through the SON’s Foundation.

The Nurturer and the Researcher

Nicoleta Constantin BSN ’07 is part of a generation of Romanians that found opportunities outside of Romania after the fall of communism. In her life in the United States, she has performed groundbreaking biochemistry research in the lab of Duke Nobel Prize winner Paul Modrich, but she found her calling when she became a pediatric nurse at North Carolina Children’s Hospital.

Global Perspective, Local Touch: Alum Minh Nguyen ’10 Featured by UNC School of Medicine

More than a decade ago, Minh Nguyen came to the United States as a high school exchange student. He has since followed a path to the UNC School of Nursing, a nursing position in the Burn Intensive Care Unit at UNC Medical Center’s renowned North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, and the UNC School of Medicine, where today he is training to become a physician.
