BSN Alumna Lindsey Lang Recognized for Giving Back

During her last year at the SON, Lindsey Lang, BSN ’13, teamed up with the UNC-CH Association of Nursing (ANS) Students and ANS faculty advisor Megan Williams, MSN, RN, FNP, to organize a food drive for the Durham Center for Senior Living (DCSL). Their community service effort was recently highlighted in Johnson and Johnson’s Nursing Notes.

Eunice M. and Melinda Kellner Brock Scholarship to Support Aspiring Nurse Practitioners

A scholarship will soon be available to students who demonstrate an interest in family care and aspire to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner. SON supporter and Chapel Hill resident Eunice Brock has established her second endowed scholarship benefiting nursing students. This new fund comes in response to the growing needs for nurse practitioners within our healthcare system.

SON Alumna Becomes Army Surgeon General

Last week the School of Nursing honored Maj. Gen. Patricia D. Horoho (BSN ’82) with the Alumna of the Year Award. This week she takes command of MEDCOM and becomes the Surgeon General of the U.S. Army. We’ve posted pictures and video from the ceremonies and a link where you can watch live as she is sworn in as Army Surgeon General.

Watch Live … on Dec. 7 at 4 pm as Maj. Gen. Horoho is promoted to lieutenant general and is sworn in as the 43rd Army Surgeon General.


Horoho assumes command of MEDCOM

When Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond T. Odierno passed the U.S. Army Medical Command flag to Maj. Gen. Patricia D. Horoho during a ceremony at Fort Sam Houston on Dec. 6, the moment marked two historic firsts for the command. Read more here, and see pictures here.
