The UNC SON Alumni Association recently conferred the 2017 Distinguished Alumna Award on Linda McCauley, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAAOHN (BSN ’71). McCauley is the sixth dean of Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, which has risen steadily in rankings under Dr. McCauley’s leadership and is now 4th among nursing graduate programs according to U.S. News and World Report. Rizza de la Guerra’s grandfather was a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force. Her husband Karl served in the Air Force for ten years. And so it’s with this service in mind that Rizza and Karl decided to give back to veterans by creating The Karl L. and Rizza H. de la Guerra Veteran Health Scholar Fund. Before Nora Warshawsky earned her PhD from the UNCSON in 2011, she was a multi-tasking full-time graduate student who taught for four years in the classroom and clinic, served as graduate student representative to the University, pursued her own research, traveled to professional conferences and cultivated an off-campus network of like-minded colleagues.
