Congratulations to Associate Professor Sonda Oppewal, PhD, RN, APHN-BC and her colleagues in the Center for Lifelong Learning, who recently completed a documentary detailing the need for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) — registered nurses who have completed specialized education and clinical preparation in the medical forensic care of patients who have experienced sexual assault or abuse.

The year-long documentary project was funded through a federal grant awarded by the US Department of Justice through the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety / Governor’s Crime Commission and is aimed at educating the health care community and local governments on the value of, and need for, this specialized training for nurses to work with this sensitive population.

Check out the results of their efforts here and please feel free to share!
