Part-time Home Caregiver (Posted 6/19/2017) I am looking for a nursing student who is interested in geriatric, end-of-life, hospice care to help care for my step-mother in Carrboro. She is on home hospice with end stage brain cancer. She is bed-ridden and practically immobile. She needs someone to help feed her, bathe her and clean up BM’s. She has a Foley Catheter in, but it occasionally leaks, requiring bathing and bedding change. Hospice aides come in 3 times a week to bathe and change bedding, but it’s up to us the rest of the time. She sleeps most of the time and doesn’t require much work – but someone who is strong and able to turn her and clean her must be available. We currently have a caregiver agency coming every day, but since my father is there, and she doesn’t require much work unless she needs cleaning, there is a lot of downtime. I would like someone close by in Carrboro or Chapel Hill, to stop in at my parents’ house 3 times a day to check her, turn her from side to side (to prevent bed sores) and if necessary, clean her, bathe her, change bedding, perhaps feed her or give her medications at my father’s direction. My father can feed her and give her medications, but can not turn her to clean her or change her bedding. We will pay $50/day. The visits might be quick if she is dry and clean and doesn’t need anything, but you should be able to bathe or clean her if necessary or do a few other light housekeeping chores if needed. We are flexible and can work around your schedule, as long as you can check on her periodically 2-3 times per day. She has been on hospice for 2 1/2 months now and while we don’t know how long this will go on, we expect her pass away in the next couple of months – well before school starts again. It could be an easy way to make $350 per week as well as gain some valuable home health, end-of-life care for your future nursing career. Please reply to me at email@example.com if you are interested.
