Temporary Study Nurse Coordinator (Posted 3/20/2017)  The study nurse coordinator in the clinical trials unit serves as both clinical resource and study coordinator. As coordinator, this person will coordinate and conduct complex aspects of two related, industry-supported, left ventricular assist device (LVAD) clinical trials in the Division. The role of the study nurse coordinator is central to the success of the trials in supporting participant recruitment, ensuring timely achievement of milestones, timely and accurate data submission, and adherence to the protocol. The study nurse coordinator must have some knowledge of cardiovascular physiology and pathology. The study nurse coordinator works under the supervision of the study PI and clinical trials manager, but must exercise excellent clinical judgment in patient monitoring and care. The study nurse coordinator will also have a supporting role in other studies in the division for which nursing assistance may be required.  Minimum experience: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and some knowledge of cardiovascular physiology and pathology; proficiency with medical terminology.  Compensation: $28-$32/hour.  Start at 40 hrs/week, then drop down to 32 hrs/week later on.

Sitter for 94 year old  (Posted 2/22/2017)  Interested in being paid for studying?  I’d like to be able to go out one or two nights a week, and half a day on weekends (Sat. or Sunday).  To do that I need a caring person to sit with my 94 year old mom who has dementia.  She sits and reads during the day; you just would be here to tell her where I am and ask her to drink water occasionally.  At night she watches TV (but can’t hear well, so no sound necessary), and then you would help her to bed around 8pm (takes 10 minutes).  Clear, loud speech is important, though.  Weeknights I’d be home by 9 or 10pm, weekend by 11:00 at the latest (rarely).  Our home is 2.1 miles from the UNC Nursing School on Umstead Drive; very private and quiet with high speed internet.  I’d prefer one person to fill this need, if possible.  Please contact Helene at 919-338-9230 if interested.

Private In Home Aid (Posted 2/20/2017)  We are looking for a part-time aid to help my mother.  She has MS & relies on a motorized wheelchair to get around, duties would be assisting her to get ready in the morning and evening.  I have made a list below which outlines most things, she has a Foley catheter & has had bed sores in the past.  We do have a home health care company that deal with it but knowledge & the ability to assist would be wonderful. She is a lovely, fun loving lady who is originally from England.  The perfect person to work with her would be someone with a great sense of humor who is patient and kind, she loves to laugh & enjoys good company!  Hours for the morning would be to get up around 8:30am, evening bedtime varies sometimes depending on how she is feeling but it is normally around 7pm.  She may, from time to time need some assistance during the day on weekends.  Morning routine would include: give morning pills, bed bath as needed,change diaper and put a pull-up on, help getting dressed, assist with transfer from bed onto motorized chair using a slide board, make bed and put items away that have been used to get ready, assist with daily things that my mother may need help with.  Evening routine would include: give evening pills, transfer from motorized chair onto bed, undress and put into night shirt, change diaper and clean area, make comfortable using pillows, one under legs and something under feet to stop them from flopping and keep heels up and off the bed, put items needed for the evening within reach including water and make sure room is at comfortable temperature before leaving.  Please contact Ashley Phillips at or at (919)-793-8303.

Currently we are looking to hire about 9 individuals to assist with this project for 3.5 months. The primary responsibility of this position is data collection for the Healthy Me, Healthy We study.  This position is ideal for recent graduates taking time off before graduate school or individuals looking for research experience (start date ~March 7).  Specific responsibilities will include:training and passing certification on all data collection protocols; organizing and packing of all assessment supplies prior to going into the field; travel to field sites participating in the study; conducting assessments at the child care centers including; measuring providers height, weight, and waist circumference of children, administering provider and parent surveys; Conducting environmental observation assessment at each child care center; and conducting diet observation assessment at each child care center.  Strong candidates will have research experience, preferably in areas of nutrition or physical activity, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Elderly Care Companion (Posted 1/23/2017) A family that lives off of O’Kelly Chapel Hill road in south Durham (about 7 miles from exit 273 off of I-40) is looking for a help taking care of their elderly mother. She had a stroke a couple of years ago and is paralyzed on her right side, so she needs assistance with her nighttime routine. She is limited with communication, but her husband is around and is great at helping you figure out what she needs. The family needs someone to come at around 8:15 PM to help her get ready for bed. The process usually takes around 30 to 45 minutes and they will train and pay you for a full hour of work (pay is $25 per hour). If you want some additional hours, you can also help out for about 2 hours in the morning on weekends. This is an excellent opportunity for current students who have limited patient care. A couple of nursing students have been sharing the position, but are no longer able to continue this semester. The family is looking for 2-3 students who are able to help this semester, with the potential for one or two to continue working over the summer. CNA I and/or II certification is preferable.
