:: Orientation :: UNC Email
As a UNC student, you will receive a free UNC email account.
The UNC email address begins with your ONYEN
ID and ends with "@email.unc.edu". For example,
if Jane Doe's ONYEN is jdoe, her UNC email address
would be: jdoe@email.unc.edu
Your UNC email account is the only one that faculty
will access.
You can get a UNC email account by applying for an ONYEN.
Visit the ONYEN site for
more information.
Accessing Your UNC Email
You can access your email via Webmail:
http://webmail.unc.edu
There are also specific programs called email clients
that allow you to check your email. One such program,
called Mulberry, can be downloaded at the UNC
Shareware Distribution Web site. Other common email
programs are Outlook
and Mozilla email.
Forwarding UNC Email
You can forward all email from your UNC account to another
mail account you have by going to the ONYEN
Homepage and clicking on the Forward Email
button about halfway down the page. Please note that some
Internet service providers block email forwarding from
Blackboard, and, if you use a mailbox with a space limit,
larger PowerPoint files could fill your mailbox and prevent
you from receiving messages.
Email Aliases
You can also create an alternative email address (alias)
for your UNC
account. You create the first part of an alias and the
ending is shortened to "@unc.edu". Click
here to access a document that contains instructions for
creating an alias.
