This course introduces the registered nurse student to components of the research process with application to the theory and practice of nursing. Emphasis is on research in nursing as it relates to the current and future practice of nursing. Critiquing skills will be developed to assist the registered nurse student in becoming an active consumer of research and a participant on the research team. This course provides the foundation for Master’s level nursing research courses. |
| Nursing 379 Leadership in Nursing Practice |
Registered nurses will use a systems approach in analyzing a variety of contemporary practice environments. The course will enhance the student's leadership skills that are necessary for a successful practice in complex health care institutions. Strategies for learning will include group analysis of documents collected from agencies, lectures, class discussions, group presentations, and written exams. |

Selected concepts and theories are explored as a basis for making judgments and decisions in nursing practice. Critical thinking skills are developed as an essential component of professional practice. |

Prepares RN students for population-focused practice in community health nursing. Analyses and applications of selected theories, and health promotion/protection and disease prevention strategies are emphasized. |

Concepts and principles underlying biomedical and biopsychosocial approaches to health care delivery are analyzed to determine their impact on health and to provide a framework for integrating both approaches to care. |

The context of professional nursing practice will be analyzed from a social, economic and policy perspective. |
