Is Online Learning For You?
One of the first things to think about if you're considering an online program, is whether online learning is right for you. You're probably attracted to online learning because of the flexibility it offers people who have hectic lives with multiple responsibilities -- people like you. Because each of us has different skills, different strengths and weaknesses, and different ways of learning it is also important to consider whether your characteristics, skills, and learning style are a good fit with online learning. Of course you don't have to be a perfect match to be successful, but you do want to be comfortable with the program you choose and feel confident that you'll be successful.
Successful online learners usually exhibit the following characteristics and skills:
- Self-motivation
- Self-direction
- Self-discipline
- Initiative
- Time management skills
- Organizational skills
- Strong reading skills
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing
- Ability to follow instructions independently
- Willingness to ask for help
- Comfort with technology
