Our own DNP director, Dr. Debra Barksdale was one of 3 faculty chosen to deliver a presentation at TEDxUNC. The theme of TEDxUNC 2014 was Taking Flight and Dr. Barksdale, PhD, FNP-BC, ANP-BC, CNE, FAANP, FAAN , presented her talk during a session called Gaining Altitude.

Her presentation, Rising from the Mud is an inspirational and motivational story. In the talk, Dr. Barksdale draws upon metaphors, imagery, and lessons she learned from her past to paint a picture of who we can become despite our circumstances and how we should use the past to help shape someone else’s future.

“Even if you are from the mud, find the inspiration and the direction that you need from life,” said Dr. Barksdale. “It’s OK to look back, it’s OK take. But ultimately give back to the next generation. Pull someone out of the mud.”

Dr. Barksdale will present a special encore presentation of her TEDxUNC talk on Friday, February 28.  The talk will begin at 11:00 AM in Fox Auditorium, Carrington Hall.

This post will be updated with a complete video of Dr. Barksdale’s talk when it becomes available.
