Purpose

To increase cultural awareness, sensitivity, and competency through the appreciation and acceptance of differences in students, faculty, staff, and the clients that we serve. The book club concept is based on critical literacy theory. Discussions provide an open, non-threatening forum for talking about issues of diversity that are relevant in today's society.

Location, Dates, and Time

All of our book club discussions are in Room 104, Carrington Hall, from 12-1 pm and 5-6 pm. Please bring your lunch or dinner.

How can I get involved?

The book club offers monthly discussions on a variety of topics and issues and is open to anyone who is interested. The discussions are led by volunteer facilitators who are faculty, staff, and students.

Where can I purchase books?

Students, faculty, and staff at the School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill may borrow books pending availability from the Office of Multicultural Affairs. The bookstore offers a discount for purchases of books that OMA has identified for the book club. Also, books on tape may be available at your local library.
