CIHDR Center for Innovation in Health Disparities Research

Between 2002 and 2008, the Center for Innovation in Health Disparities Research (CIHDR) worked to increase the capacity for culturally competent nursing research. The Center partnered the Nursing Programs at UNC-Chapel Hill, Winston-Salem State University, and North Carolina Central University. The Center was funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research and the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities, National Institutes of Health.

The Center advanced three primary goals: (1) to increase the number of minority nurse researchers, (2) to develop programs of health disparities research, and (3) to improve the way we collaborate with and conduct research with minority populations and communities. To accomplish these goals, the Center mentored faculty and students, funded pilot studies, and developed and implemented educational programs.

The School continues to build on the Center’s work through its strong programs of research to understand and reduce health disparities. Learn more about the School’s research in this area at the following link: Reducing Health Disparities.
