Mentoring

Finishing REAP program - ceremony The primary aim of REAP is to enrich the research experience of minority nursing students with the long-term goal of increasing the number of racial and ethnic minority researchers in nursing.  The Research Enrichment and Apprenticeship Program (REAP)  partners minority undergraduate and masters nursing students from UNC-Chapel Hill, Winston Salem State University and North Carolina Central University with faculty having programs of research related to health disparities.  (We call our REAP students "Fellows" and the faculty who work with them "Mentors.")

Fellows, with  faculty guidance, also design and conduct their own small research projects. The other activities of Fellows and Mentors include the following:

  • implement research interventions
  • meet with research participants
  • collect and analyze data, interpret findings
  • meet with the research team
  • do methodological work
  • present their work at research meetings
  • attend regional and national professional conferences
