Mentoring Project(s) and Self-Assessment Matrix

The Committee is working to improve the system to advise and mentor faculty in teaching, research, service, and administration to enhance their experience and success. Programs will provide participants beneficial information from other faculty members' areas of expertise, drawing on a variety of resources within the School of Nursing and the University.

A self-assessment tool has been developed and is being piloted.

Self-Assessment Matrix

The School adopted the Wilkerson and Irby model of Faculty Development to conceptualize the faculty development plan for the School of Nursing. In order to emphasize the shared relationships among the key developmental needs in faculty roles and responsibilities, the Task Force developed a self-assessment matrix to illustrate the roles of a faculty member with examples of various activities that might be used to meet ongoing faculty development needs (See Self-Assessment Matrix). Through self-assessment, a faculty member might identify his/her individual needs that could be addressed through a variety of resources. Some of these needs might be met through resources available on campus, resources and programs at the School of Nursing, or through resources external to the University. Each faculty member could use this matrix for identifying goals and developmental needs for the coming year.
