Bolivia:

Dawn Bussey, BSN '06, is a second-degree nursing senior who spent half of her summer work experience in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Bussey was able to travel to the South-American country with support from the CV Starr International Scholarship, awarded to students pursuing research or professional experience with an international focus.

The purpose of her trip was a cultural immersion, concentrating on Spanish language skill development. While in Cochabamba, Bussey lived with a native family with three young children. This family was very involved in the development of the community, which Bussey said helped to facilitate many learning opportunities of her.

Bussey participated in a sex education program for adolescents, taught preschool age children how to brush their teeth, and met with the local nursing school director to discuss future partnership opportunities.

Bussy also had many exciting excursions during her trip including traveling around the Salar de Uyuni, renovating a rural community's school house, venturing into the mines in Potosi and traveling to the beautiful city of Sucre.
