Clinical instructor Leslie Sharpe has been honored with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) State Award for Excellence. The award is given annually to a person in each state who has made a significant contribution towards increasing awareness and acceptance of nurse practitioners.

Ms. Sharpe currently serves as the lead provider of the Sylvan Community Health Center. Located in Snow Camp, NC, the health center makes services available to community members as well as students who attend Sylvan Elementary School nearby. When she is not seeing patients, Ms. Sharpe is an active advocate for nurse practitioners in North Carolina. She chairs the NP Council of the North Carolina Nurses Association and is Treasurer of the North Carolina NP Political Action Committee. She has provided leadership and strategic vision with the aim of achieving full practice authority for NPs in North Carolina.

She received her award during a ceremony at the AANP annual meeting, which was held this year in Nashville, TN.
