Professor and Chair of the Family Health Division Marcia Van Riper, PhD, RN, was honored with the Founders Award for Outstanding Nursing Education in Genetics. She accepted the award at the 2013 International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG) Silver Anniversary Conference in Bethesda, Maryland.

The Founders Awards, established in 1996, were created to honor Individual ISONG members who have demonstrated excellence in genomic nursing education, research, or service. Members of the society have an opportunity each year to nominate a fellow member for a Founders Award. The award recognizes members who have served ISONG and are leaders in genetic/genomic nursing and health care.

This is the second Founders Award Dr. Van Riper has received. In 2008, ISONG honored her with a Founders Award for Research to recognize her work on investigating the family experience of living with a genetic condition.
