Susan Ruppalt Lantz, BSN ’73, has created a scholarship that will provide funding for undergraduate nursing students. With a background in math, Susan was working at UNC hospitals when she was mentored by a supervisor and recruited to become a nurse. She attended school as a single parent, and that challenge enhanced her appreciation for the opportunities and security of a nursing career. Susan’s desire is to help other students who might also face challenges in pursuit of the degree. To that end, preference for Ruppalt scholars will be given to students who are also single parents.
Susan had a long career as an operating room nurse, serving in many capacities. A leader in the field, she held top positions within the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses, and founded the North Carolina council of the organization. She also served our country during the Gulf War and is a veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
An active alum, Susan has regularly participated in SON alumni events both in the Charlotte area, and in Chapel Hill. She has consistently supported the general nursing scholarship fund for years, and looks forward to continuing the Ruppalt family name through this endowed scholarship.
