September 15, 2016 | In Outreach, Patient Care, Service

On August 24, 2016, volunteers from UNC School of Nursing, Piedmont Health Services and Frank Porter Graham Health Committee offered state-required kindergarten physicals to children attending Frank Porter Graham Bilingüe Elementary School from families in need.

A special thank you to Donna Havens, Mary Schuler, Carol F. Durham, and Christina Harlan for supporting this community outreach and lending the health care providers the necessary physical assessment equipment needed to conduct the physicals (physical exam bags that included otoscopes, ophthalmoscopes, reflex hammers, measuring tape, pediatric BP cuffs and Denver development assessment kits) as well as contributing to the cost of the disposable supplies such as tongue blades, otoscope speculums, alcohol wipes etc.

We were so pleased to be able to offer this service to our neighbors and greatly appreciate all the students and faculty who volunteered!

Parent – Mercy Changwesha, School of Nursing BSN Students Cindy Palomo and Amanda Perez, PHS Rosneka Newbill, and School Nurse Patti Burke assisted with hearing, vision and vital signs.
