The School of Nursing formally expanded its global reach on November 8th when Interim Dean Donna Havens signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with St. Luke’s international University in Tokyo, Japan.

The signed MOU marks the first formal step to further a collaborative relationship with the prestigious Japanese University begun by Professor SeonAe Yeo, who has been offering her expertise in their efforts to launch that country’s first Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

The two institutions seek to establish a UNC—St. Luke’s International Visiting Professorship, which will allow UNC faculty to spend 4 to 6 weeks each summer in Tokyo to teach, collaborate in research activities and mentor the next generation of global nurses. With the support of the SON’s Office of Practice and Global Initiatives and the Office of Graduate Practice Programs, Dr. Yeo has led the effort to initiate the visiting professorship.

The professorship should be finalized in spring 2017.
