Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Training
Prepubertal and adolescent patients presenting to emergency departments for concerns of sexual abuse/assault are common. Care for this patient population requires specialized training for medical and nursing providers. The Pediatric/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training provides a strong foundation for nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians and physician assistants to acquire the needed knowledge and skills in providing this specialized care to a vulnerable patient population.

Kayoll V. Galbraith and Lauren Hamilton have been selected as 2014 Jonas Scholars. The Barbara and Donald Jonas Family Fund started the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence in 2006 with the goal of deploying philanthropy to improve healthcare through nursing.
Beth Lamanna, RN, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Assistant Professor in the UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing received the 2011 GlaxoSmithKline Child Health Recognition Award for work she did with SON students to assess and evaluate barriers to blood lead screening in Chatham County, North Carolina.
upon the results, she and the students proposed new policies to improve testing rates and lower the levels of lead exposure. These policies have now been adopted by the county commissioners. In Beth’s name, a $1,000 scholarship has been given to the NC Public Health Association.
