Sarah Frances Russell Professor Barbara Mark, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been selected for the 2013 Path Paver Award given by the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research. The award is given to a nurse researcher who has made significant scientific contributions in a field that advances our understanding of human health and health care.

For more than 25 years, Dr. Mark has been studying work environments, quality, and safety in acute care hospitals. In one of her most recent studies, Dr. Mark and her colleagues found that a legislative mandate to increase nurse-to-patient ratios in California has had mixed results.

Dr. Mark will receive the Path Paver award on October 16 at the Nightingala celebration in Washington DC.
