The Order recognized her for her “decades of commitment to healthcare communication, physician wellness, and the students and faculty she has supported at Carolina.”

Raphael-Grimm is the third School of Nursing faculty to be inducted into the Order of the Golden Fleece and joins previous inductees Meg Zomorodi and Gwen Waddell Schultz.

Founded on April 11, 1904, the Order of the Golden Fleece selects members based upon service to the University as reflected in scholarship, motivation, creativity, loyalty, and leadership in academic and extracurricular pursuits.

Raphael-Grimm is a clinical professor with appointments in the Schools of Nursing and Medicine, and has served UNC since 2001 as both an educator and a practicing psychotherapist with 37 years of clinical experience.

She is associate director of the Taking Care of Our Own program, supporting physician wellness in the Department of Psychiatry. Her book, The Art of Communication in Nursing and Healthcare, won the Laurel Archer Copp Literary Achievement Award in 2015 and has shaped how healthcare providers across the country approach patient interaction.

She has served as Faculty Chair of the School, chaired the Educational Policy Committee and served on the Provost’s Committee on LGBTQ Life, reflecting her commitment to inclusion and equity across the University community.
