Associate Professor and Biobehavioral Laboratory Director Dr. Patricia Silveyra was recently selected to attend the 2020 National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Emerging Leaders Forum*. This exclusive event aims to connect approximately 70 emerging leaders working across all fields of health and medicine and related fields with NAM members, enabling attendees to gain new perspectives on their own work.

Invited emerging leaders are outstanding early- and mid-career professionals with exceptional professional promise, achievement, and leadership in fields related to health and medicine. The Forum will provide a platform for identifying novel and inventive approaches to shared challenges and barriers in health and medicine, encourage interdisciplinary collaborations and networking, and gain new perspectives to spark transformative change across fields.

Dr. Silveyra is already a member of a leadership program of the National Academies, the New Voices in Science, Engineering and Medicine (https://www.newvoicesnasem.org/), for which she was selected as part of the initial cohort of 18 emerging leaders from a pool of over 550 applicants. She has served as co-chair for this group since 2018 and she has represented US young scientists at international forums held in Vietnam and Japan. Dr. Silveyra’s research is supported by NIH and focuses on sex-specific mechanisms of lung inflammation in asthma.

*Update: This forum has been postponed in light of COVID-19 concerns, and will be rescheduled for later this year.
