The School of Nursing mourns the loss of one of its dearest friends and patrons, Tom Norris, who passed away on May 31.

Tom and his wife Jane, BSN ’56 have provided significant philanthropic and volunteer leadership to the School of Nursing throughout its history.

Tom was instrumental in the creation of the School of Nursing Foundation in the 1980s, providing pro bono legal counsel to the organization for over 35 years and serving as an honorary lifetime member. Tom also represented the SON on a campus wide level as chair of the School of Nursing’s Carolina First Campaign and as a member of the leadership committee for the current Campaign for Carolina Nursing.

Through their personal philanthropy, Tom and Jane created an endowed graduate nursing scholarship, named the current office suite for the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Student Services and were lead donors in several special campaigns including fundraising efforts undertaken by the BSN Class of 1956.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 5 at 11:00 am at Raleigh Moravian Church, 1816 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607, followed by a reception and visitation with the family in the fellowship hall.
