On April 27th, Assistant Professor Elizabeth Walters and undergraduate students Chloe Boyd, Gabriela Valchanova, Dina Louis and Suzie Crothers spent the afternoon working with the Carolina for the Kids foundation at a “Movie Night” themed event that Dr. Walters helped organize.

Before a showing of Bedtime Stories, pediatric inpatients and outpatients at UNC Hospitals were treated to crafts, games, dancing, and visits with princesses and superheroes provided by Moment of Magic.

Through the help of these SON volunteers, those patients who were unable to attend the event in person had the event brought to them. Those who were too sick to leave their rooms or on isolation precautions had photos taken with a disposable green screen that allowed them to choose their own fun background, and received visits from princesses and superheroes along with time for individual crafting and games.

Dr. Walters worked throughout the spring semester with the Carolina for the Kids Foundation to help plan the event, address issues of compliance, and ensure that developmentally appropriate activities were provided.

Thank you to all for serving our community in this cheering way and for representing the SON so well.
