Assured Admissions
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING
Ways to Study
- On-Campus
The UNC School of Nursing is proud to offer Assured Admissions to Nursing to a select group of outstanding first-year students from North Carolina. This highly competitive opportunity guarantees a spot in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) major—provided all program requirements are met—offering a clear, direct pathway to a nursing career after a student’s first two years at UNC–Chapel Hill.
Selection Process
Applicants for Assured Admissions are identified through a holistic review of their UNC Undergraduate Admissions application. No separate or supplemental application is required for consideration by the School of Nursing — just answer the associated questions on your application. Selection is based on:
- Exceptional academic achievement in high school
- Meaningful extracurricular involvement
- Demonstrated interest in the nursing profession
Students selected for assured admission are not required to declare Nursing as a major and may explore other academic interests. There is no obligation to pursue the BSN if their goals change.
Students who are not selected for Assured Admissions may still apply to the BSN program through the intra-university transfer process while attending UNC–Chapel Hill. They are not at a disadvantage, as the School of Nursing reserves ample spots for applicants through this traditional pathway.
Eligibility Requirements
To maintain eligibility for entry into the BSN program, Assured Admission students must:
- Be a North Carolina resident
- Complete all lower-division and nursing prerequisite science courses (View prerequisites)
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and 3.0 GPA in prerequisite science courses
- Complete at least 32 hours of service within their first two years at UNC–Chapel Hill
Upon meeting these criteria, students will begin the BSN program in the fall term of their junior year.
Student Benefits and Support
Students offered assured admission will receive tailored support throughout their time at Carolina, including:
- One-on-one mentorship from School of Nursing faculty
- Pre-enrollment advising from the Office of Student Affairs on coursework, funding, and service opportunities
- Invitations to School of Nursing community events
- Opportunities to engage early by joining the Association of Nursing Students at UNC
