Principal Investigator: Rachel Hirschey, PhD, RN, FAAN
Funded by: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Rachel Hirschey co-leads the Cancer Control Collaborating Center of North Carolina (4CNC), which for two decades has partnered with community and clinical partners across the state to prevent and control cancer. 4CNC is part of the Cancer Prevention and Control Resarch Network, a national network of centers that are working to support the implementation of evidence-based interventions. In the current round of funding, 4CNC is partnering with community pharmacy to promote lung cancer screening as part of their tobacco cessation programs. Lung cancer screening is key to identifying cancer early, when it is most amenable to treatment and yet only 1 in 5 at risk tobacco users has been screened. Pharmacists regularly deliver tobacco cessation counseling and are well positioned to promote lung cancer screening.
