Invest in Nursing: An Educational Redesign to Strengthen the Primary Care Workforce
Funded by: Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA)
Timeline: This project has ended.
Underserved rural populations have become a central focus for nurses and nurse educators, who see first-hand the toll that a lack of access to health care takes on families and communities. Community-based primary care settings provide high quality, affordable health care in underserved communities.
In these health care settings, there is a greater emphasis on team involvement in care and expansion of the roles of each team member including registered nurses (RNs).
Megan Williams launched “Invest in Nursing: An Educational Redesign to Strengthen the Primary Care Workforce” to help create a sustainable nursing workforce for community-based primary care teams in rural and underserved settings. In a partnership with Piedmont Health Services, this program will focus on recruiting, educating, and providing financial support for a diverse body of nursing students, as well as supporting practicing registered nurses and nursing faculty through professional development.
