Clear Bags
Guests are encouraged to leave all bags at home, but the following items will be allowed into all Commencement venues, including Kenan Stadium, Dean E. Smith Center and all school, departmental and small group ceremonies:
Signs
We follow the stadium policy, which is no sign bigger than 8.5”x11”.
The SON commencement reception will be an informal time to gather with classmates, family, friends, faculty, and staff. There will be no formal program or remarks. Light refreshments and beverages will be served.
Commencement Reception Parking
Due to the number of concurrent events, please allocate additional time for parking. Public Parking: Rams Head Deck. View the map here.
Please note that the Rams Head Deck is approximately a 15-minute walk from the Genome Sciences Patio. We recommend dropping off graduates and guests with mobility issues directly at the Genome Sciences Building before parking.
Tickets are not required and there is no guest attendance limit.

The University of North Carolina School of Nursing is delighted to announce Senator Gale Adcock, MSN ’87, FNP-C, FAANP, FAAN, as the keynote speaker for its Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony.

Adcock brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the nursing profession. Raised in southwestern Virginia, she understands the value of hard work and education. She holds a nursing diploma from Virginia Baptist Hospital, a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from East Carolina University, and a Master of Science in Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill.
With over three decades of experience as a nurse practitioner, Adcock served as the Chief Health Officer at SAS Institute for more than 26 years before retiring in October 2020. Learn More.
Full academic regalia is required for all participants and will be available through UNC Student Stores starting March 21. 2024

Disability parking will be available in the Williamson Lot (immediately across from Smith Center), with golf cart transportation to Entrance A. This lot requires a handicap tag or license plate for entry. Additionally, UNC bus transportation has handicap accomodations. View the map here.
Pinning is an optional undergraduate tradition that we encourage you to consider participating in during the ceremony to mark the completion of your program.
You can select anyone of significance to you to be the “pinner” and additional information will be provided to you all just prior to the ceremony. Please note that ONLY the pinner is allowed to be on the floor for this portion of the ceremony. Unfortunately, we are unable to permit photos being taken during this time.
The SON provides the pins, which will be available at the ceremony.
