Tips
We encourage students to enroll in the UNC Chichewa Language and Malawi Culture Workshop taught by Dr. Chifundo Zimba. This four-part web-based workshop covers health and cultural training including cultural awareness, as well as brief presentations on the history, geography, politics, and economy of Malawi. Attendance at all sessions is strongly recommended. To register and/or ask questions email Mamie Harris at malawi@unc.edu. If time allows visit Lake Malawi (occupies 1/3 of the country) which is about 2 hours drive from Lilongwe and a safari- Liwondo National park is about 3 ½ hours away. One may wish to try Nsima, Malawi’s staple food with Chambo fish that is exclusively found in Lake Malawi.
