ABSN student receives Pediatric Nursing Certification Board Scholarship

Congratulations to ABSN student Justin McDuffie for being awarded the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board’s Investing in Pediatric Nursing Diversity RN Student Scholarship!

Launched this year, the scholarship aims to support students with a passion for pediatric nursing and who identify with diverse backgrounds, including ethnically, culturally, racially, and gender diverse, disabled, or historically marginalized communities underrepresented in pediatric nursing.

“Justin has a genuine passion for working with children and their families. He consistently demonstrates a kind and compassionate demeanor towards patients and their families, which is essential in the pediatric setting,” says Assistant Professor Kandyce Brennan, DNP, CNM. “Justin also has a strong understanding of the unique needs of children and the importance of family-centered care.”

The School of Nursing celebrates Justin McDuffie’s achievements and commends him for his dedication to pediatric nursing and promoting diversity and inclusivity within the profession!

“I am eternally grateful to the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board for helping fund my nursing education at Carolina. Their commitment to diversifying the pediatric nursing field to include more men and members of the LGBTQ+ community ensures that our patients see themselves represented in their providers. Their support of me ensured I would be well prepared to start my career as a pediatric nurse at UNC Medical Center upon graduation. I hope to use this gift as a way to further encourage diversity in the pediatric nursing field.”
