Alumni Appear On American Journal of Nursing Cover

Two SON alumni were selected to appear on the cover of the November issue of the American Journal of Nursing. The picture shows Micah McCanna, BSN ’11, caring for a patient under the guidance of his preceptor, Paul Couch, BSN ’08. Mr. McCanna was completing a clinical rotation in the cardiovascular ICU at North Carolina Memorial Hospital.

The journal selected the picture because it illustrated an “example of how working with a preceptor can help to smooth the transition from an academic to a clinical setting.” The picture was also used to highlight a research article about newly licensed RNs transitioning into practice that was published in the issue.

To see the cover, see the journal’s Current Issue page. To read the short editorial on the value of preceptors that accompanies the photo, click over to the journal’s website.
