The Association of Nursing Students held its annual Tar Heal Explorations event on Saturday, October 3rd.
The annual outreach program is designed to educate and interest a new generation of potential health care providers in the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and how valuable and gratifying it is to be nurse.
Nearly 50 Scouts from troops across the state participated in the event, which was divided into an introduction, six learning stations, lunch and a poster presentation. The stations covered topics including infection prevention, body image, fitness, first aid, nutrition and the “STAN” patient simulator. Each troop made a poster that captured what it means to be a nurse and they presented these at the end of the day.
At the completion of the day’s event, the Scouts were each awarded with the Nursing Exploration badge.
