Carolina Nursing is pleased to announce that Associate Professors Maureen Baker, PHD, CNL, CHSE, and Megan Williams, EDD, MSN, RN, FNP, have been selected as recipients of the 2023/24 UNC/Adobe Grants Program: “Communicating Research with Digital Media.”

This highly competitive grant program, focused on enhancing the digital literacy and visual communication capacities of faculty members, will provide Dr. Baker and Dr. Williams with valuable skills, tools, and resources to effectively communicate their research. The grant aims to empower them to engage stakeholders across diverse modalities and audiences, ultimately contributing to improved care for older adults with serious illnesses and their families.

The UNC / Adobe Grants Program “Communicating Research with Digital Media” is a collaborative initiative between Adobe, the Center for Faculty Excellence, and the University Libraries. This partnership aims to equip faculty and researchers with the ability to leverage digital tools for effective communication in an increasingly digital academic landscape.

The program will allocate $1,000 in funds to each recipient, supporting the utilization of Adobe Creative Cloud software and other digital media tools in their research communication efforts. The grant period spans a semester, during which Dr. Baker and Dr. Williams will participate in a series of workshops and activities designed to enhance their proficiency in utilizing Adobe’s digital composition tools.

The introductory session, scheduled for January 12, will familiarize the recipients with various digital programs and ideas for integrating Adobe Creative Cloud tools into their research communication processes. Throughout the semester, they will collaborate with expert University Library staff, attend workshops covering various topics, and complete a program that culminates in a wrap-up lunch on March 28th.

The program’s overarching goals include fostering digital literacy, multimodal communication, and visual design for effective research communication. Through this initiative, postdocs and faculty members like Dr. Baker and Dr. Williams will receive comprehensive support, training, materials, and compensation to innovate with digital technologies in communicating their research.
