The UNC School of Nursing is proud to announce that BSN student Apollos Lee has been awarded the prestigious Carolina Excellence Senior Thesis Research Award. This award will support Lee’s senior honors thesis research project, titled “Empowering Patients and Families: Development of a Multimedia Educational Pre-operative Orientation Resource.”
Apollos Lee’s research project aims to develop a comprehensive multimedia resource designed to empower patients and their families during pre-operative care. By providing accessible, clear, and supportive educational material, the resource encourages active participation in healthcare decisions, ultimately aiming to improve patient outcomes and experiences.
Associate Professor Maureen Baker, PhD, CNL, CHSE, said, “Apollos Lee is making a name for himself! With hands-on experience in UNC’s cardiac intensive care step-down unit, coupled with his spirit of inquiry and commitment to improving patient care, Lee is set to make a lasting impact. His honors initiative is focused on empowering patients and their families to take an active role in their health and healthcare decisions.”
The Carolina Excellence Senior Thesis Research Award is a financial award offered by Honors Carolina to support senior honors thesis research projects. Each year, approximately 350 students complete a Senior Honors Thesis as part of their undergraduate experience, with many students graduating with Honors or Highest Honors. This award helps cover the costs of materials, equipment, travel, and other research-related expenses.
