Carolina AAPI Nursing faculty and students provide free Health screenings

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, Carolina AAPI nursing students, under the leadership of Dr. Grace Wu, conducted free health screenings at Hargraves Community Center in Chapel Hill. The event was part of a community wellness initiative organized by the Asian American/Pacific Islander Nurses Association-NC Chapter, where Dr. Wu serves as President.

The health screenings were designed to support adults in the community by offering essential services without cost or pre-registration. Services included blood pressure checks, respiratory assessments with SpO2 levels, and heart rhythm screenings using a mobile EKG device to identify atrial fibrillation, a frequently undiagnosed heart condition.

Participants were also welcomed with breakfast items, coffee, and Asian pastries, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for health and wellness.

Dr. Wu and the AAPI nursing students at UNC-Chapel Hill aim to promote community health and wellness while advancing healthcare equity through their outreach efforts. This initiative highlights their commitment to addressing healthcare disparities and improving access to vital health services in the local community.
