Carolina Nursing Associate Professor and Alumni Association President (and active nurse) Dr. Ashley Leak Bryant spoke with CBS17 about the CDC’s new guidelines for health care workers, provided in response to shortages of protective equipment. “We need to have equipment that has been tested,” she says, adding “most people are doing the best they can with what they have.”
Nurses everywhere are raising concerns over access to approved personal protective equipment (PPE). UNC Health is now asking for donations of PPE and other supplies, and the SON simulation team has depleted their supplies in order to help. This includes:
- 277 isolation gowns
- 2,028 face masks
- 16,460 pairs of non-sterile Nitrile gloves
