We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Ernest Grant, a distinguished nurse leader and a prominent figure in the nursing community, will be the keynote speaker for our Spring 2023 Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony will take place on May 12th and will be a celebration of the hard work and accomplishments of our Carolina Nursing graduates.
Dr. Grant has an impressive career as a nurse leader and educator. He is the immediate past president of the American Nurses Association (ANA), where he represented the interests of 4 million registered nurses across the United States, and the interim vice dean of diversity equity and inclusion at Duke University. He is also an adjunct faculty member at the UNC School of Nursing and has served as the outreach coordinator for the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
In addition to his many professional accomplishments, Dr. Grant is also known for his dedication to mentoring undergraduate and graduate nursing students.
In a previous interview with Carolina Nursing, Dr. Grant encouraged students to advocate for themselves and for their patients, saying, “I want them to see that they are the future of the profession and that it is important that they not only advocate for themselves as nurses, but also for those that we care for.”
We are honored to have Dr. Grant as our commencement speaker and look forward to hearing his inspiring message on graduation day. His wealth of experience and leadership in the nursing profession will undoubtedly provide valuable insights and guidance to our graduates as they embark on their own careers.
