Giscombe and Soltis-Jarrett named to inaugural class of ISPN fellows

Inaugural ISPN fellows

Carolina Nursing faculty Cheryl Woods Giscombe, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, FAAN, and Victoria Soltis-Jarrett, PhD, PMHNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, have been named to the inaugural International Society of Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurses (ISPN) Fellows of ISPN (FISPN) program, the first fellowship dedicated specifically to recognizing excellence and sustained contributions within the psychiatric–mental health nursing profession. 

The FISPN designation honors psychiatric–mental health nurses who have demonstrated leadership, scholarship, service, and a lasting commitment to advancing mental health care and the profession. Read the full press release from ISPN. 

Giscombe is the Melissa and Harry LeVine Family Distinguished Term Professor in the School and Senior Associate Dean and Chief Wellness Officer. She is a social and health psychologist, psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, and certified holistic health coach, and her research focuses on biopsychosocial factors that influence health and health disparities through psychological stress and coping pathways.           

Soltis-Jarrett is the Carol Morde Ross Distinguished Professor of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and has practiced psychiatric nursing for over 35 years. She continues to focus her clinical practice, teaching and scholarship on rural mental health care, integrating behavioral health into primary, acute, and long-term care settings, participatory research, and community engagement. 

Giscombe and Soltis-Jarrett were formally inducted as fellows during the ISPN 2026 Annual Conference in Seattle, marking the first time this distinction has been awarded.
