Dr. Cheryl L. Woods Giscombé has been named the new Associate Dean for the PhD Program and Division for the School of Nursing. Cheryl will begin her new role on July 1, 2021, following the retirement of Dr. Linda Beeber, who has led the PhD program for the last four years.
Through her work as the LeVine Family Distinguished Associate Professor of Quality of Life, Health Promotion, and Wellness, Cheryl has created mindfulness and wellness initiatives for the SON community that promote health and reduce anxiety. She holds advanced degrees in nursing and social and health psychology, and her program of research focuses on understanding and reducing stress-related health disparities among African Americans.
“As lead faculty of the PhD program, Cheryl has thoughtfully mentored students and been a source of expert support to faculty,” said Nena Peragallo Montano, dean of the UNC School of Nursing. “She is uniquely qualified to lead our PhD program, and I am delighted that she will be stepping into this role and joining the School’s leadership team.”
