The UNC School of Nursing is proud to announce that Rachel Hirschey, PhD, RN, FAAN, has received new funding from the National Cancer Institute to serve as a multiple principal investigator for the newly established UNC-based Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science Coordinating Center.

Hirschey will serve as MPI alongside Alison Brenner, PhD, of the UNC School of Medicine, and Stephanie Wheeler, PhD, MPH, of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Together, the interdisciplinary leadership team will guide national efforts to support and sustain the Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science, a network focused on accelerating the translation of evidence-based cancer prevention and control strategies into practice.

“CCIS plays a vital role in accelerating the translation of evidence into practice,” Hirschey said. “I am honored to serve as MPI with Dr. Brenner and Dr. Wheeler as we lead this national network and work together to develop innovative public goods that strengthen cancer prevention and control.”

The consortium convenes implementation scientists, clinicians and community partners through Action Groups and an annual meeting. These efforts support the development of publicly available tools, trainings and resources designed to advance cancer implementation science.
