Dr. Victoria Soltis-Jarrett, PhD, APRN-BC, PMH-NP was awarded a Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) grant to develop ways to increase patients’ access to quality psychiatric care.
The funds will enhance the current psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMH-NP) program at the SON. Dr. Soltis-Jarrett, who is a clinical professor and the psychiatric mental health APA coordinator, and her team will aim to prepare PMH-NPs to integrate behavioral health care into various care settings using an interprofessional education model. The grant will also fund dissemination of the education model, recruitment of PMH-NPs who are minorities or who come from disadvantaged background, and additional preceptors in primary care and extended care settings in rural and remote areas of North Carolina.
Drs. Noreen Espisito, EdD, WHNP, FNP, PMH-NP, and Mary Lynn Piven, PhD, RN, CS, as well as Dr. Donald L. Rosentein, MD, from the Comprehensive Cancer Support Program and Consultation Liason Service, will also contribute to the project.
