The UNC School of Nursing community mourns the passing of Landon “Landy” Lewis Fox, BSN ’56, a cherished member of Carolina Nursing’s second graduating class and a lifelong advocate for our School.

Landy was a Lifetime Alumni Achievement Award recipient (2022) and Honorary Member of the School of Nursing Alumni Association and, together with her husband Tom, demonstrated extraordinary generosity and commitment to future generations of nurses. In 2010, they established the J. Thomas Fox & Landon Fox Undergraduate Nursing Merit Scholarship Fund, and in 2015, they created the School’s first DNP scholarship, the Thomas and Landon Fox Graduate Pediatric Nursing Scholarship, honoring Landy’s distinguished work in pediatric nursing.

A devoted champion of the profession and of Carolina Nursing, Landy dedicated her life to service, mentorship, and advocacy, and she embodied the spirit of what it means to be a Carolina Nurse. Her legacy lives on through the countless students, nurses, and patients who will continue to be touched by her generosity, leadership, and lifelong commitment to nursing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 28, 2026, at University Presbyterian Church at 1:00 p.m. Landy kindly requested that those attending wear a touch of Carolina Blue in her memory. You may read her obituary here.

On behalf of the entire Carolina Nursing community, we extend our heartfelt sympathy as we remember and honor the life of a beloved alumna and friend.
